Went out for a sail on Wednesday – got the 11am lock and sailed down to Normans Bay, Northerly Force 3, then we drifted while Eddie tried to catch some mackerel, but he only got a tiny horse mackerel. But we did fish a nice big kids rubber ring out of the sea, just right for the granddaughters! About 2.30pm the wind suddenly backed westerly and shot up to a 4-5, we were on our way back anyway and got the 3pm lock. As we were sorting out the boat back on our berth Eddie noticed black billowing smoke coming from Eastbourne, and we later found out the pier was burning, a terrible thing, a large mid section burnt completely out. It was the old ballroom that went up together with a few shops. A tragedy.
