On Wednesday 21st August we headed to Brighton in the afternoon, after taking the granddaughters home the day before and an hospital appointment in the morning. Weather lovely and calm, we managed the 1pm lock and made Brighton about 5.15pm – we had some tide against us for a while. I called ahead and booked us in on to berth 15,37 which was on the East side of West Quay so fairly quiet, a good spot. We were impressed with the efficiency in the office too.
The next day we met up with Jill and Maurice who were in Brighton on Blue Diamond until Saturday, so we all had a nice meal in The Master Mariner in the evening. Place was very quiet though, we almost had it to ourselves.
Friday 23rd was very hot, we went into Brighton and had a meal in one of the Wetherspoons there, but it was really busy. My back was playing up so was glad to get back and lie down.
Another hot day on Saturday (Bank holiday weekend) and the day we booked to go to Pryzm, the nightclub in Brighton, for a mod evening. We took the bus there and back, and saw The Kinx, and The Small Fakers! Two tribute bands of course, we had a good evening although it was packed in the nightclub. We had paid to stay on for the after party, dancing, etc. but both were ready to return to the boat by 10.30pm. The noise in the club was tremendous and we both had singing in the ears!
Sunday was extremely hot, Jill and Maurice returned to Eastbourne and we shall leave tomorrow. We went to the Boot Sale on the top of the multi storey here at the marina, followed by a coffee in McD’s. In the afternoon we walked to the Volks Railway terminus as all the Mods with their scooters were congregating there. It was a fantastic sight seeing all their Lambrettas and Vespas shiny and sparkling, apparently August Bank holiday weekend in Brighton is traditionally a mod celebration.
Sailed home on Bank holiday Monday, very hot again with no wind. We had breakfast at Spoons first and left the Marina about 12 noon. It was a lovely sea, and we motorsailed back, whilst Eddie fished off the back for a while. He managed to catch a mackerel on the way and we got to Sovereign about 5pm – a slow mooch back. Had a cup of tea with Jill and Maurice before heading home.
