We left Sovereign on Saturday in the 6am lock two days earlier than planned after looking at the weather. Sunday looked good for crossing the channel so Dover first, then Dunkerque. Had various alarms going off as we approached Dungy, it was quite bumpy, so assumed the worst, but all turned out to be false alarms. As per usual the gas alarm went wrong then one of the bilge alarms, so Eddie had to disconnect the gas one and remove the battery from the other. After that the sun came out and the sea calmed down for a pleasant entry into Dover. Bit of a building site there at the moment with few facilities, but we are off early the next day so didn’t bother us.
7.30 start on Sunday, so had a lay in! Calm sea, overcast but the sun came out later to warm us up a little. Left the harbour by the east entrance which made life easier, avoiding the ferries and suchlike. As it was such a good day we carried on to Nieuwpoort, so we could have a couple of days there for (🍺) shopping, etc. The AIS had a funny turn off the Dunkerque coast, kept showing us hitting ourselves, which has happened before, and is to do with repeaters. Think the update card may have set it off again.
We arrived in KYCN about 7.15pm and tied up on the visitor’s pontoon, tired but happy! Next weather window we’re off to Zeebrugge (probably) as nothing is set in stone….
